Dining

Heirloom Restaurant and Sake Bar showcases a cross cultural culinary dialogue between the Eastern and Western worlds from Executive chef Kyle Doody (Jacques Reymond, European, Gills Diner) and owner/chef Shigeo Nonaka (Shoya). Heirloom offers a variety of Japanese and French food to share with an exclusive selection of sake's, boutique wines and local micro brewery beers. Both Chefs share a passion for good produce and fine technique. If you are looking for more traditional Japanese fare, there is a separate sushi/sashimi, tempura and yakitori bar driven by Shigeo and his highly skilled team using the finest produce we can find. Those familiar with Shoya's high end Japanese cuisine can expect the same level of quality and attention to detail. For meat lovers we have constructed a display dry ageing meat locker, stocked with brilliant cuts of house butchered beef from around Australia with Kyle's nose to tail philosophy producing some memorable meat moments. Featured also is 5 different types of oysters sourced from the best waters and shucked, fresh to order, making the dining experience at Heirloom one to remember.Housed in a contemporary space designed by Victor Isobe of Zen Design below Citadines on Bourke Melbourne at 131-135 Bourke Street, Heirloom is a great place to unwind and indulge. Open for breakfast through to lunch, dinner and late night bar snacks 7 days a week.

The Waldorf Astoria - New York

,

Overview

Occupying an entire city block, this Art Deco landmark is every bit the Grande Dame you would expect. The coveted Park Avenue location is just 2 blocks from Rockefeller Center and its famous ice-skating rink. After a twirl on the ice, head to Fifth Avenue, where luxury shopping includes Bergdorf Goodman, Tiffany & Co., and the flagship Saks Fifth Avenue--all within a 15-minute walk of the Waldorf. If your tastes lean more toward culture than couture, the Museum of Modern Art is a 10-minute walk from the hotel. In the evening, take your pick of New York's nightlife--the latest Broadway musical, a concert or Knicks game at Madison Square Garden, or dinner at a 5-star restaurant--all just a short walk or taxi ride way.

You'll follow in the footsteps of U.S. presidents, heads of state, socialites, and celebrities when you enter the Waldorf Astoria's opulent lobby. As you pass through the Park Avenue entrance, stop to admire the circular Art Deco floor mosaic created in 1931 by French artist Louis Rigal.
The Waldorf's lobby is home to some of New York's most celebrated restaurants and lounges. Peacock Alley is renowned for its extravagant brunch, and Oscar's American Brasserie specializes in the Eggs Benedict--a dish, by most accounts, that was invented at this hotel. Rub elbows with the city's elite at Bull and Bear Steakhouse's mahogany bar, or sample a steak. The clubby Sir Harry's Bar serves a signature Rob Roy cocktail--also believed to have originated at the Waldorf. Room service is, of course, available 24 hours.
If you're lucky enough to attend an event in the Grand Ballroom, you'll encounter a regal recreation of the Court Theatre in Versailles, large enough to accommodate 1,500 guests for dinner. Wireless Internet access is complimentary in the lobby and public areas. Valet parking is available for a surcharge.
The 42-story hotel offers 1,416 guestrooms and suites, and no 2 are exactly alike. At the end of a day of meetings or exploring the city sights, you'll be relieved to sink into a bed with a plush pillowtop mattress and triple sheeting. All guestrooms and suites have flat-panel TVs with premium and international channels. All rooms offer high-speed Internet access (surcharge).

The Waldorf Astoria's restaurants and lounges enjoy a storied past--both as prestigious New York social destinations and as the rumored birthplaces of the Rob Roy cocktail and the brunch mainstay Eggs Benedict. Savor a steak in the Bull and Bear Steakhouse, or sample Peacock Alley's famed Sunday brunch. The first hotel in the world to offer room service, the Waldorf provides it around the clock.
Bull and Bear Steakhouse - This quintessential New York steakhouse features Prime Angus steaks and fresh seafood. The legendary mahogany bar is the rumored birthplace of the Rob Roy cocktail. Movers and shakers reserve the wine library for private dining and strategic gatherings. Open for dinner.
Peacock Alley - The place to see and be seen, this lobby restaurant is known for its sumptuous Sunday brunch. A separate lounge features a 30-foot bar, and a private dining salon can be reserved for special events. Serving breakfast, lunch, and small plates for dinner.
Oscar's Brasserie - This casual brasserie is named after the Waldorf's famed maitre d' Oscar Tschirky, credited with inventing the Waldorf salad. Offerings also include the (reportedly) Waldorf-invented Eggs Benedict. Open for daily breakfast and weekend lunch.
Sir Harry's - This clubby Manhattan mainstay is located just off the lobby. Sip a Rob Roy or Waldorf Sunset at the elegant bar, or join friends around one of the lounge's checkerboard tables. Open from early afternoon until late night.
Room service - Available 24 hours a day.

If you have energy left after shopping and touring New York, the Waldorf Astoria's 2,500-square-foot fitness facility is open 24 hours. There is a surcharge for registered guests.
